Surrey League Cross Country Div 1 Race 4 2009-2010
Saturday, February 6, 2010 at 05:54PM So, with the leagues ending its left to the Counties, Inter counties and the Nationals to tie up the season. HHH's efforts could not quite crawl back the lead of TH&H going into the final fixture on this hilly, twisty circuit that was 'virginal' to many a runner.
Chris Smith takes Div 1 win
Chris Smith, 9th in the Southerns last week (21st in the Nationals last year) grabbed a 3 second win over Paul Rogers (Reigate P) who placed 26th last week in the Southerns. With Lockett the rocket closing the team in 29th they edged Th&H by 7 places. Notable runs by V45 (49 yrs old) Julian Critchlow in 24th and Edwards and Quinn (4th and 6th respectively) put paid to furthering TH&H's lead. Alan Barnes, in only his 3rd race of the season grabbed a credible 9th place.
Alan Barnes takes top 10 spot.3rd place on the day went to the ever developing HW squad who hedge up most of the junior races with HHH. Liam White (U17) followed up his 7th place in the Southerns U17 with 13th place in the Senior race but rules do not allow scoring for this age group. Teams moving down to Division 2 next year are Ranelagh Harriers and Guildford and Goldalming AC with HW just edging Reigate Priory to 4th place overall. Will Ranelagh vote a new captain in? Watch this space. Was the hair of Bickerstaff anything to do with their downfall? We will never know. Did Ranelagh attempt a last ditch effort to get other teams very drunk last week. Yes, they sure did! Will SLH come back firing on all cylinders next season?
Previous captain Andy Bickerstaff accepts Ranelaghs' move to Division 2. A first time for many a year.
Liam White (pictured at the Southerns 2010) ran to 13th place taking down seniors with his 6ft shadow.
Reigate Priory maintain their position in Div 1 led home by Paul Rogers in 2nd place and Alister Moses (2nd Right) in 18th.
27.55 10k man Dave Clarke models old school HW vest to 50th place.
