National 12 stage 2010 - boys boys boys...... exclusive!!!!!!! Part One

NEWHAM & ESSEX BEAGLES, THE 2006 12 STAGE WINNERS WERE AGAIN CHAMPIONS ON THE 17th OF APRIL.

    In warm Spring sunshine Newham led from Leg 6 and they were never again headed, although a resurgent TIPTON HARRIERS were a good second beating a strong SHETTLESTONE team for the silver medals reports Alastair Aitken for Runners Digest.

    Newham won, without Ian Grime and Mo Farah however, one must spare a thought for last year's impressive Champions Belgrave Harriers who were 8th 94:16:43) of the 61 teams that completed (71 started).

    Their Team Manager Alan Mead said to me beforehand " Nick Goolab, The National Junior Champion and Steve Sharpe (A reliable relay man) were missing' (No Flights from Portugal into UK airspace).

     ' We managed to arrange for people to come by train and Speaight'y was coming from Switzerland and got here early but, we were really gutted. It would have been very difficult for us to win. We were still hoping to win. If we lose two guys like that, now all we are hoping for was to get medals. If we did, it would be the 10th successive year and that would really be remarkable but, of course now, we are up against it. We still have got a good team but it is not a 'Killer' team!"

    The first Six teams were 1 Newham & Essex Beagles 'A' 4:09:12, Tipton Harriers 4:11:26, 3 Shettleston Harriers 4:12:01, 4 Aldershot, Farnham & District 'A' 4:12:41, 5 Leeds City AC 'A' 4:13:58, 6 Bristol & West AC 4:14:15.
