NATIONAL SIX STAGE RELAYS (OCTOBER 2011)

The first six completed teams out of 76 clubs:- 1 Aldershot Farnham & District 1:44:51; 2 Birchfield 1:45:22; 3 Newham & Essex Beagles 1:45:30; 4 Leeds City 1:45:33; 5 Swansea Harriers 1:46:15; 6 Bristol & West AC 1:46:48.

Here is my account and interviews which concerned the runners at the sharp end with also the words of the Southern Six stage road relay Champions Newham & Essex Beagles. In the race itself Birchfield tested Aldershot in the latter stages but, mainly due to Aldershot's Andy Vernon running the second fastest time of the day on leg 4, the other big rivals Newham & Essex Beagles found it an impossible task to take the title.A huge gap had developed after the first two runners had completeed stage five well ahead. Newham had the sixth fastest runner of the day Keith Gerrrard on the last leg. However Birchfields' runner on the final leg was no match for International marathon runner Ben Moreau, who brought Aldershot home clear.

VICTORIA PARK '5' A WORLD RENOWN ROAD RACE (March 2011)

After this year's 5 mile road race in Victoria Park, on the 26th of March, the President of Victoria Park & Tower Hamlets Athletic club, Peter McHugh de Clare said "That must have been about the most exciting race in the 45 years history that the event has been held." reports Alastair Aitken.

Florence marathon 2010

Ben Whitby bashes out a 2.15.12 in crap conditions............ We wish it was like this!! A solo run by ben in the florence marathon 2010 brought a pb by 3 minutes in his 4th marathon!!!! The conditions were poor with rain, a delayed start (as usual!), and a feisty course. Ben went through half way in 67.10 with little company and pulled though to catch a couple of dudes in the latter stages that did the blowers.......

A Little history first

I had the pleasure of being at the first Ranelagh Harriers Half Marathon in 1980, writing it up for Athletics Weekly in those days. It was run from Effingham, all on the road, and Bernie Ford won in 64:05. The second year Keith Penny was the winner in 66:05 from Barry Watson 66:11 and one year Grenville Tuck won the race in 67 minutes so
